After an invitation from Dionysis Livanis, I created a small video for a video exhibition in Athens (Greece) during the 10th and 13th of May 2007. The main theme of the exhibition was contrast and my approach entitled decon-trast-ion is described/explained below:
Knowledge exists in the intangible and abstract space between two different entities. The better the dynamics between the two entities, the bigger is the space between them. Without it, the two entities can be practically considered as one. Can the deconstruction and reconstitution of the two entities' inner structure in a way that minimizes the abstract space between them, maintain the essence of the contained knowledge? And thus can we imply that the following statement is true?
if (contrast!=0) knowledgeExists=true;
else return(false);
else return(false);
And if so, what is the aesthetic result of the segregation and classification of the dynamics between color and its absence, between 0 and 1, between existence and the void? Can this new arrangement (which theoretically preserves the contrast of the whole picture constant) transport the primary information intact? And hence:
if (contrastNew==contrastOld) knowledgeNew=knowledgeOld;
The video was made using processing.
The sound samples used were from Axilleas Sourlas's "(struct part)*my_piece[5]" (Axillea, thanks a lot).
You can see some sample frames below:
