Didn't you just love BPmono italics? Well, it has undergone through a transformation process and has eventually been reformed into an actual typewriter font. BPtypewrite is in fact BPmono italics standing up, with new soft edges, and a whole system of supporting fonts including underscored, strikethrough and slashed. The italics version remains in all variations, while a rough alternate complements the whole set (BPtypewriteDamaged). Let the BPtypewriting begin! If you like BPtypewrite take a look at caketype's Nitti Typewriter designed by Pieter van Rosmalen (Pieter thanks for the support ;-).
backpacker.gr celebrates 4 years on the road with the release of BPimperial; a caps-only condensed typeface in two weights (light and bold), each one accompanied by extreme 12 degrees italics. With several letters trying to impose on the rest, and a set of unexpected design choices in some of its puncuation marks, BPimperial is a display font that literally stands out! Give it a try (be careful though: you shouldn't mess with its spacing or kerning. It's designed to work as is)! BPimperial showcase: don't forget to download BPimperial's accompanying pdf. It includes works from a few friends that kindly responded to my invitation to try the font and design something (anything) with it. Thanks a million to all of you (Christos Tsoleridis + Christos Papatheodorou from togetherdesign, Giannis Kouroudis from K2design and Michail Semoglou from cannotnot design together with Emirihanna Litsa)
An extremely "fat" typeface suitable for titles and (very) small texts. Feel free to play around with its spacing and kerning for better results. One regular and one italics variation, both available in OTF format. You got to love this fatty!
OK, there are plenty of similar "dot" fonts out there (either free or not) so, there is not much of an innovation here ... But what about those variations! 30 monospaced "dot" fonts in 6 alternates (round, square, diamond, plus, minus, vertical) and
2 styles (normal and unicase), together with 3 non-monospaced condensed variations (round, square, diamond). Most of the 30 monospaced fonts can be used
interchangeably, since they share the same width, allowing you to create stunning layering effects. Check out the accompanying presentation for the big picture ... Tip: BPdots and its variations have not been designed for usage on screen. If you want though to use them in a screen project, try using either BPdots or BPdotsSquares (normal or unicase) in 10px font-size or, alternatively, BPdotsCondensed in 26px font-size. They look great! Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the rest of the fonts or for other pixel sizes ...
BPreplay came alive from the need to improve MgOpenModata, a rounded typeface made recently available as an open source font from its owner Magenta. Thus, the regular weight of MgOpenModata went through a series of glyph corrections, and in several cases complete alterations (eg. a, epsilon, zeta, xi, omega, etc.), and through this process BPreplay regular was born. BPreplay italics, bold and bold italics, together with small caps and old style numerals, were redesigned from scratch based on BPreplay regular. Tip: Try using the stylistic alternate "a" (similar to the greek upright alpha) in latin text for a subtly different, but equally interesting, look and feel. Note: BPreplay family is released under the SIL Open Font License (included in the download .zip file). Please read it before using the typefaces.
A monospaced typeface suitable for technical texts and/or programming. BPmono and BPmono Bold are manually hinted from 9px to 16px making it appropriate
for use in various advanced text and programming editors (eg. Visual Studio .net, Visual Web Developer, MS Word etc). All three fonts are available in TTF format. Tip: A monospaced font should always be aligned left (or right, at worst) and never justified or centered in order to remain actually monospaced. Changes: BPmono Bold is introduced, while BPmono and BPmono Italics faced some glyph and hinting corrections (many thanks to Nick Tzanos for his help and suggestions). Additionally, the bold version of the font has a new stencil brother for those occasions who need the extra air. Check it out as well!
A connected typeface suitable for titles and small texts. Just have in mind that the uppercase letters are designed to accompany the lowercase and not to be set together. Available in OTF format.
An open, geometric, futuristic, full-of-ligatures typeface. Includes small caps. Available in OTF format (with liga, dlig, smcp, c2sc, onum, fina, swsh and aalt otf features).
BP pong (+ BPpongGrunge [new addition]) | download (5042 downloads)
A light, stencil typeface suitable for small texts. Not very carefully designed (it was my first attempt to design a regular - that is not a handwritten or scanned - typeface). Available in OTF format (with liga, onum, fina, aalt otf features).
Two childish-looking typefaces for titles or small texts. BP child fatty is more smooth while BP child lefty more rough. Both available in TTF format.
hand text pack (BP mouse + BP tall) | download (4917 downloads)
Two handwritten typefaces. A serif one for texts(?) and a tall sans serif one for titles(?). Or maybe the other way around. BP mouse is available in OTF format and contains small caps as well. BP tall is available in TTF format.
play pack (BP big head + BP ilialena) | download (4063 downloads)
Two handwritten and really playful typefaces. Use them in logos or titles (perhaps in children books). Play around with BP big head's kerning for better results. Both available in TTF format.
Talking about chubby! Extreme weights for extreme applications. Try it on posters or logos. And feel free to play around with the glyphs (change them to match your designs). BP chubby fat is just a smoother version from BP chubby. Available in TTF format. Additions: BPapeloig has been added (Jan, 2010). The font was designed in 2004 and it's actually the basis (or, version 1.0 if you want) for BPchubby. As its name suggests, it was inspired by Phillipe Apeloig's work on type design and more specifically from his The P.O.S.T.E.R. poster (an all time favourite, I must admit).
experimental pack (BP latin numerals + BP letter squares) | download (1805 downloads)
Just experimenting. BP latin numerals is just an otf features programming experiment (available in OTF format) while BP letter squares was inspired by
Kevin Larson's work on word recognition (available in TTF format). Use them (or not) ...
BP molecules (EPS font + TTF) | download (3148 downloads)
An EPS font trying to represent letters as molecules. I am pretty sure that an A is made of millions of little 'A molecules'. If you don't believe me check it out on a microscope. I did and this is what I saw ... (really). Character took the liberty to turn BPmolecules into a TrueType font. After some minor corrections, it's made available together with the EPS version. Tip: For more accurate designs or large sizes, I suggest you continue using the EPS file. For smaller sizes, you can use the Truetype version all the same.
After a request from Sotos Anagnos (art director of Babel magazine) and support from Ray Larabie, I designed the Greek alphabet for the new Bullpen font family. The font family is comprised of 7 weights, all with corresponding italics (from Ultra Light to Heavy + a 3D version) and is available at myFonts (all 15 fonts for only $22.95 for personal, and $49.95 for commercial use) illustration: created by Sotos Anagnos, animated by George Triantafyllakos
BP fonts are available in TrueType (for PC and MacOS X) and OpenType (platform
independent) format, supporting a number of typographic features. They were
created using Fontlab™ Studio 5 in a
Windows 2000 platform, and have been tested under Windows 2000, Windows XP and MacOS X 10.4
You can download and use most of
the fonts, under a
Creative Commons License. The only thing, kindly requested from you, is to
refer to this source, whenever a commercial use is intended. Altering the fonts
in any way is prohibited. Some of the fonts are available from
Cannibal™ fonts.
Some of them (especially the scanned fonts in the Handwritten category) are pretty
rough. So, have in mind that they will not work (aesthetically that is)
in all projects. I am not responsible for any aesthetic misuse of
the fonts. Feel free though to send an
e-mail, showing me how you used them.
Enjoy :-)
p.s.1. BPfonts ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND AND NO LIABILITY FOR DAMAGES. The previous statement is not
a legal statement - it's just a statement. The fonts have been tested under Windows 2000, Windows XP and MacOS X 10.4 as previously stated.
There is no warranty for use in other operating systems. So, please, use responsibly.
p.s.2. You may see that certain fonts resemble to existing, well-known fonts
(e.g. BPletterSquares was inspired by
Kevin Larson's work on word recognition,
BPneon resembles CAOU by Paris Koutsikos, available from Cannibal&trade fonts,
while BPpong resembles Jigsaw by Johanna Balusikova, available from
Typotheque™).
I am aware of that and I assure you that I had no intention
to copy these fonts and present them as my designs. They are just forms easy to
work with in order to learn the available font tools. I do not in any way claim that my designs are unique and novel.)
